Bastide Miraflors Grenache Pairing

Here is what we decided to pair with today’s dinner– Grilled Chicken.

Today’s Grenache Pick

Bastide Miraflors Syrah/Vieilles Vignes Grenache 2019

We have never before tried a Grenache, which we understand pairs well with chicken. The one we chose is a blend of Syrah and Grenache. Bastide Miraflors Syrah Grenache is a red wine blend from the Languedoc-Roussillon region in southern France. We bought it at the LCBO. The wine is made from a blend of Syrah and Grenache grapes, which are grown in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains. The wine is known for its rich, fruity flavors and aromas, with notes of dark berries, black pepper, and spice. It is a full-bodied wine with a smooth and velvety texture and is often aged in oak barrels to add complexity and depth. Overall, Bastide Miraflors Syrah Grenache is a delicious and complex wine that is perfect for pairing with hearty meat dishes or enjoyed on its own.

I had never heard of Grenache wine before now, so was not sure what to expect. This was a Syrah/Grenache blend and I would call it medium bodied. It was not as mellow as I was led to believe from other reviews but it may be my inexperience with medium bodied wines. It certainly benefited from decanting as it got mellower over time. It was a good accompaniment to the BBQ chicken and was good value for the money. I’d like to try a Grenache that isn’t a blend next time.

My rating-

Rick— Ah, the French. They make some mighty fine wine. This one was rich, but not bold, full, but not biting. Went nicely with my chicken as I sauced my chicken with some pretty bold sauce which I blended myself. It contained tabasco so fairly expressive in its own right.
