Barone Ricasoli Chianti Pairing

Here is what we decided today to pair with today’s dinner– Italian Sausage.

Today’s Chianti Pick

Ricasoli Rocca Guicciarda Riserva Chianti Classico is a red wine produced in the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, Italy. It is made from a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that are grown in the vineyards surrounding the Rocca Guicciarda estate. The wine is aged for at least two years in oak barrels, which gives it a complex and intense flavor profile. We got this bottle from the LCBO.

The Ricasoli family has been producing wine in the Chianti region since the 12th century, and they are credited with creating the modern recipe for Chianti wine. The Rocca Guicciarda estate is one of their most prestigious properties, and the Riserva Chianti Classico is considered one of their flagship wines.

The wine has a deep ruby color and aromas of dark fruit, vanilla, and spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied with flavors of black cherry, plum, and tobacco. The tannins are firm but well-integrated, and the finish is long and smooth. It is a wine that pairs well with hearty meat dishes, such as grilled steak or roasted lamb.

Ada Blythe

Ada— Surprisingly light tasting but went well with the rich sausages.

Fruity, I could see this as a sipping wine without food.

Would definitely buy again! It is much lighter than the full bodied reds we have been drinking but that’s why we’re here, to try new things! I probably wouldn’t have purchased this without looking at the pairing recommendations.

My rating-

Rick— I expected something much heavier, but this was a perfect pairing. I read some other reviews that said that it was quite fruity and had an open weave. Umm, what does that mean? Pretentious a little bit? I will do that one better and say that this wine had a nice open cheese-cloth weave.

My rating-

The wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels, which gives it a complex and elegant flavor profile. On the nose, it has aromas of dark fruit, vanilla, and spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied with flavors of black cherry, plum, and tobacco, with a long and smooth finish.

Ricasoli Rocca Guicciarda Riserva Chianti Classico is a highly-regarded wine that has received numerous awards and accolades, including a 92-point rating from Wine Spectator. It is best paired with hearty meat dishes, such as roasted lamb or beef, and aged cheeses.

Today, Barone Ricasoli is still run by the Ricasoli family and continues to produce some of the most highly-regarded wines in Italy.
