Ridge Road Pinot Grigio Pairing

Here is what we decided to pair with today’s dinner– Fish & Chips.

Ridge Road Pinot Grigio

Today’s Pick – Ridge Road Pinot Grigio 2020

Crisp, refreshing, and lively is how the winery describes its 2020 Pinot Grigio. Flavors of ripe peach, lemongrass, and a touch of ginger will fill your mouth. This wine is so versatile you can pair it with anything from fresh fish and herbed chicken dishes to creamy pasta and curry. Best enjoyed chilled and with a friend!

Ada Blythe

Ada— The wine was light and fresh and imminently drinkable. Not very sweet, quite dry but all in all a great sipping wine that would also go well without food.

My rating-

Rick— This is one of those wines that works in any situation. Very mild with no surprises. For me, this would be the perfect sipper to have in the afternoon out on the deck. Make sure it’s chilled.

Ridge Road Pinot Grigio Taste Profile

The light, crisp flavor of Pinot Grigio makes it great for a lot more than just casual sipping — so it’s also suitable to sip without food. This dry white wine is great for cooking in a range of lighter dishes, adding brightness and acidity to the mix. The grapes can be used to produce high-end stunning wines but its true genius comes from being responsible for some of the most affordable and quaffable wines including this one that are blissfully simple.

Ridge Road Estate Winery

Ridge Road Estate is a small-batch winery located in Stoney Creek, Ontario. The winery is situated on the edge of the Niagara Escarpment, offering stunning views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline. With all the forest fire smoke in the air, we could not see the lake at all during our visit.

They describe themselves as a casual winery with an outdoor wine patio, an indoor tasting room, and a retail store offering wine tastings, wine by the glass, retail wine purchases, and delivery.

Fish & Chips

fish and chips with a glass of wine beside

Fish ‘n’ chips is a classic British dish that typically consists of battered and deep-fried fish (usually cod or haddock) and thick-cut potato chips (fries). The flavors of fish and chips can vary depending on the recipe and cooking method, but here are some general flavor characteristics:

  1. Fried: The fish and chips are deep-fried, which gives them a crispy, golden-brown exterior and a tender, flaky interior.
  2. Salty: The dish is often seasoned with salt, which enhances the flavors of the fish and the potatoes.
  3. Savory: The batter used to coat the fish is typically made with flour, beer, and spices, which can add a savory, slightly spicy flavor to the dish.
  4. Potato-y: The chips are made from thick-cut potatoes, which have a starchy, earthy flavor.
  5. Mildly fishy: The fish used in fish and chips is usually mild-flavored and not overly fishy, which allows the other flavors in the dish to shine.
